Before I start this review,and tell you all how much I love this book and think that everyone of you should read this,let me first tell you that I hate the book title.In fact,it's probably the only thing I dislike about this book.
Well,it's not a bad title,but it doesn't suit the story.It suggests a cute,cheesy romance,which is not what the book is all about.Well,there is a cute romance,but even more than that How not to fall in love is not just a love story,but rather an amazing story of a brave,strong and wonderful girl.
Darcy Corvington's life takes a huge U turn,when her father's company becomes bankrupt and he abandons her and her mother.When we first meet her,she is a typical rich teenager,who doesn't have to worry about anything else than clothes and boys.And suddenly she has to deal with a repossessed car,an absent father,a drunk mother and her life which is falling apart.
Darcy is one of the strongest and bravest contemporary MCs I've ever read about.The way she deals with the obstacles in her life is truly remarkable.I couldn't help but admire her deeply,who is so close to my age,but did things that I can't even think about.I loved how determined she was,and how much she believed in herself,her decisions,instincts and her father.
One of the best things about this book is its characters.I loved every single one of them,except the ones that we were supposed to hate.Each character was unique in their own way,and played a huge part in molding Darcy's personality.
Lucas is your typical hot,overprotective and caring love interest.He was great in fixing things,whether they were machines,cars or teenage girls' hearts.He was such a sweet,kind and adorable guy who was available whenever Darcy needed someone.
Charlie-Darcy's uncle-was such a wonderful character.I really loved his affection towards his niece.He was a fun loving guy who always send weird and unique shakers to Darcy as her birthday gifts.I really wished I had a cool uncle like him!
All the other supporting characters were great as well.Charlie's girlfriend Liz,who gives Darcy a job was a strong and determined woman to look up to.Darcy's mother whose character was complicated yet understandable.And most of all,Lucas' adorable little sister,Pickles,who totally won me over with her first line itself-watcha' doin.?(Got the Phineas and Ferb reference anyone?:))
The romance was sweet,slow and beautiful.But in my opinion,just like I said above,don't think of this just as a romance story.Still,Darcy's relationship with Lucas was an adorable and wonderful one.
Overall,I really loved How not to fall in love.It's a wonderful coming of age story that will appeal to any Sarah Dessen fans with a strong MC,glimpses of the harsh reality and so much lessons for life.

Lisa Brown Roberts still hasn't recovered from the teenage trauma of nearly tweezing off both eyebrows and having to pencil them in for an entire school year. This and other angst-filled memories inspire her to write YA books about navigating life's painful and funny dramas, and falling in love along the way. Her almost forever home is Colorado, though she occasionally pines for the days when she lived within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean. Her house is full of books, boys, several fourlegged prima donnas, and lots of laughter.
