Synopsis:
An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible.
Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.
Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.
No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.
I received an ARC from Harlequin Teen in exchange for a honest review
When I first heard about Nowhere But Here I was actually a bit surprised. Motorcyle clubs in YA? Don't get me wrong,I've always loved the trope of motorcycle gangs and brotherhoods in adult contemporary, but I never thought it could be a suitable concept in YA.But I knew I can trust Katie McGarry and I was right as she has done her magic again in this beautiful new series opener.
Nowhere But Here is the story of Emily and Oz.Emily is the daughter of a biker club member, who she's always thought-have abandoned her and her mother,But when she gets a chance to get to know her father and his extended family, she's equally curious and reluctant.Whereas Oz,the son of another member, has always wanted to join the club, and is given the responsibility to look after Emily while she's there. The attraction between them is obvious, and Nowhere But Here is their story of love, family and lot of revealed secrets.
Nowhere But Here has Katie's trademarks.A perfect bad boy, sizzling and hot romance with a lot of sexual tension, dual POVs and quite a lot of memorable side characters, whose book you will look forward to as the series progresses. But there's something else in this book, that's more significant than any of these-family.This book deals with family bonds-both blood related and not-beautifully and I loved it to death!
Emily has a beautiful relationship with her adopted father-the man who marries her mother and considers her as his own.And then there's Emily's real father, who tries so hard to mend the broken relationship between him and his daughter-and their gradual but touching bonding was wonderful!Olivia-her grandmother-was a strong and terrific character and I was totally in awe with this woman who was tough yet loving.
“This is your family … If you learn to love us then you will forever have our love in return.”
The whole concept of the motorcyle club was portrayed greatly! As I've read a couple of adult books which contain this trope,I know that often people tend to write it in a stereotypical manner. But Katie gave an insight to the actual people inside the whole tough and rough popular stereotype of bikers. And I really loved The Reign of Terror. They were a brotherhood,a family. They stuck together through thick and thin and were there during each others' best and worst moments. The bond between them all was so beautiful.
Respect the rules.Respect the club
To tell you the truth,I didn't actually connect to Emily and Oz much. They were great characters, and their romance was fantastic, but they didn't impress me much as the side characters did.Oz's friends-especially Razor,Olivia,Eli-Emily's father and the rest of the family;they made an impact in me more than the MCs did.
However I did love their romance. It was beautiful,at times heartbreaking and unbelievably hot *fans self*Which is not a surprise, after all it's Katie's speciality:)
“You’re beautiful,” I say, and the honesty of my words stings. “You’re beautiful inside and out. I like how you challenge me. I like how I can never figure out what you’re going to do or say. I like how we’ve thrown weird shit in your direction and you take it like a pro.”
I cup her face with one hand and caress her soft skin. “I like how you smile and how you laugh. I like how you love and defend your family and I like how you’re trying to love mine. I love how you trust. But mostly, Emily, I like how I feel when I’m around you.”
Shit. My heart bursts as the words tumble out. “I’m falling for you.”
Overall,Nowhere But Here is a wonderful read with beautiful moments of family, hot romance and great characters!I'll recommend this to any Katie McGarry fan and I can't wait to read Razor's story-which I am already in love with after reading the sneak peek:)
