Vampire books you all need to read

It seems that bookworms' love for vampires is as undead as the mythical creatures. When one would think that the trope is long forgotten, twitter surprises me by reminding just how much the YA community loves the bloodsucking creatures, which was the case a day or two ago when the talk of the day was vampires. So I tried to recall all the awesome vampire books I've read during that time I was obsessed with them ( come on, you've all gone through that phase ) and here's a list of books you all need to read!

Now before we go into it, I kinda omitted the really big franchises. The duh ones, like Twilight, Vampire Academy ( as much as I want to badly add the series) and House of Night. So these are kind of medium popular and lesser known recs.

1. Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Bloodlines IS popular, I get it, but it deserves even better. And I know a lot of people who have loved Vampire Academy haven't actually read its spin off, and it's a crime. Bloodlines isn't the perfect series, in fact I often feel as if the second half of the series was a little bit of a let down, compared to how amazing the first three books are. However, there's one reason you should read this book : Sydrian, a.k.a the bestest ship ever in the world, period.

2. Night World by L.J.Smith

L.J.Smith is known for Vampire Diaries - and a load of other controversies - but I think her best work is this anthology series which is based on the same world. The entire concept of Night world is intriguing, vampires are either born, and could be changed only when the human is very young. The elite order of the Night world collapses when some vampires find their soulmates in humans. There's also werewolves and witches in this series, but the vampires deserve a special mention. Also the best story out of the nine is undoubtedly The Chosen, which is a love story between a vampire and a hunter, and Quinn and Rashel are love. 

3. Drake Chronicles by Alyxandra Harvey

This series showcase vampires who are born that way, and transform when they turn 16. Each book deals with the story of a different brother from the affluent vampire family, and my favs are the first and the third books, the stories of Lucy and Nicholas, and then Hunter and Quinn ( What is with vampires being named Quinn ) Both are hate to love at its finest, and the entire family is so much fun, despite being deadly creatures. The best member is their mother, who is bloodthirsty and badass.

4. Queen of Kings by Maria Dahvana Headley

Yes, Headley wrote a book before Magonia. This one is actually a hit or a miss. It's a reimagining of the story of Cleopatra, and basically gives a twist in her tale by transforming her into a vampire. It's a fabulous inception of vampires and ancient Egypt, and Headley's imaginative and whimsical prose makes the book all the more magical.

5. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

This is an interesting, almost dystopian - esque take on vampires, which treats them like zombies. Allie hates vampires, and when she herself is turned into one, tries so hard to find a cure, while hiding her own identity from the people accompanying her in her journey. It's a dark and twisted tale, with so much action, intensity and a sweet romance. I read it as soon as I finished Kagawa's Iron Fey series, and was really surprised by how gritty this novel turned out to be - which was a good thing, as I love my books a bit brutal.

6. Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill

In Chloe Neill's world, vampires are almost like royalty. It's a privilege to be turned one, however Merit couldn't bother less when she joins the "elite" group. She also strikes up a hate to love romance with a "Master Vampire" Ethan, and finds some oddball friends. The best part about the book are the characters, they are just brilliant. Merit is so badass, amazing, witty and funny and the side characters, from her best friend Mallory, her charming grandpa, to the adorable nerd Jeff - everyone will definitely make a mark. 

7. Evernight by Claudia Gray

Evernight takes place in the ideal location for a paranormal romance : a boarding school. Another classic combination of vampire and vampire hunter, Bianca and Lucas have such a good chemistry, that I remember their romance even years after reading the book. The eerie gothic atmosphere is a perfect fit, and the twist in the middle will make you go, wait what?

8. Shadeland by D.L.Miles

In a world where supernatural creatures have revealed themselves and have caused a revolution, the story focuses on the aftermath. Liv's friend is thrown into jail, for no reason other than the fact that he's supernatural and that makes him an immediate and convenient suspect to all crimes. ( Also, doesn't this sound so similar to real life, right now?) Devoid of usual cliches and tropes of usual vampire books, this one is a truly brilliant tale, which is painfully underrated.

Special Mention : Fake Blood by Whitney Gardner

Well, since we're on the topic of vampires, let me bring the upcoming vampire MG graphic novel to your attention. I haven't read it yet, but I do know it will be amazing, because come on, it's written by Whitney :D Out on the 4th of September, bookworms!
