Synopsis :

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson in March 2019!

In this moving story that’s perfect for fans of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complication—they can’t get within a few feet of each other without risking their lives.

Can you love someone you can never touch?

Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.

The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.

Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.

What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

1

“For the first time, I feel the weight of every single inch, every single millimeter of the six feet between us. I pull my sweatshirt closer to my body...trying to ignore the fact that that open space? It will always be there.” - Stella

This quote really illustrates the first time Stella is aware of her feelings for Will, paired with the knowledge that they must always be six feet apart. It comes after this very brief moment of intimacy between them, where Will puts down his careless and snarky front to be completely honest with her, and she truly feels the weight of that distance like never before.

2

“He’s so cute, my lung function feels like it dropped another 10 percent.” - Stella

When Stella sees Will for the first time there is without a doubt this initial attraction to him. What I love about this quote is that literally SECONDS later Will proceeds to annoy Stella for the first of MANY times, setting off this pervasive frustration and dislike as the two are at odds with one another until they find a really beautiful common ground.

3

“Lighten up, Stella,” I say, sauntering to the door. “It’s just life. It’ll be over before we know it.” - Will

This is classic Will right here. He has a very careless front at the start of the book that dictates all of his actions and interactions, and positively drives Stella crazy. I like this quote because Stella repeats it back to him further on in the book, and it creates this small moment where we see how much both of the characters have changed.

4

“I squint at the heart, thinking about that fateful last day. Somewhere poetic. A beach, maybe. Or a rowboat somewhere in Mississippi. Just no walls. I could sketch the landscape, draw a final cartoon of me giving the middle finger to the universe, then bite the big one.” - Will

Will has one goal: Get to his 18th birthday and live his life the way he wants to live it. He’s done with drug trials. He’s done with hospitals. He’s done with his treatments. That is...until Stella changes everything.

5

“I’m pretty sure keeping me alive is the only thing keeping my parents going.” - Stella

Throughout the book, Stella has this singular need to get as healthy as possible purely for her newly divorced parents. Her life is centered around this idea that healing for her will equate to healing for them. This quote really illustrates her perspective on the matter, and the (unnecessary) burden she is putting on herself.

This book is definitely going to cause a lot of tears, I can feel it! And the movie trailer is so cute and heartwarming, do check it out!
